How This All Began

Our first date was normal enough.  He said, "Hey, would you like to go to dinner sometime?"  She said, "Sure!"  The night of the date she tries on four different outfits, her roommate says they're all great.  He picks her up in his VW Jetta.  They head to a restaurant and then, and then...

It gets complicated.  He says, "Would you like some bread?"  She says, "No, thank you."  He says, "Would like some of my brushetta?"  She says, "No, thank you."  He says. "Would you like a sip of my beer?"  She says, "No, thank you. I'm actually Gluten-free."

Luckily for me (the "she" previously mentioned) this guy stuck around.  But eating different types of food isn't gonna be a big deal, right?  Wrong!   No matter how much understanding he has for me, my boyfriend is NOT gluten-intolerant.  In fact, when people ask he'll say, "I'm VERY tolerant of Gluten.  I love it!"

So, how do you share meal after meal after meal with someone who has a totally different dietary need than you?  I mean, I am totally okay with eating the same foods day after day, but lately, my boyfriend has been feeling like he's missing out.  How do I make gluten free more interesting for him?

Food is more than just food.  Sharing a meal with someone is something symbolic.  We're part of the same team, same family.  But how can you break bread with someone, without... well, without bread?

So, I'm writing this blog to challenge myself.  They say the quickest way to a man's heart is through his stomach.  If that's true, I'm doing a pretty crummy job.   Oh, and by the way, I HATE cooking.  I am not a chef.  This will be a challenge.

I'll be sharing easy gf recipes and share some, hopefully, light-hearted anecdotes about being gluten-free but being in a loving relationship with someone who isn't.  Follow along with me!
